This was the scene that I witnessed right where I am staying now, in 五道口,华清嘉园. I was to accompany my roommate, Lynette to the Beijing Stomatological Hospital but the area in my neighbourhood was cordoned off for the Paralympics Marathon. I had my fair share of grumbling about the delay caused by the race but as I looked through the photos I had taken last night, I was reminded of what the worship leader in BICF (Beijing International Christian Fellowship) shared on stage last Sunday; that all of us who believe in Jesus are just like the blind athletes who took part in the Paralympics. We are blind to the truth and really do not know where to go or how we should live, but God holds our hand and leads us in the right way, tutoring us in every step we take, if we would allow Him to hold our hand. Even when we fail Him, He never lets us go, just as Asaph says in Psalm 73:
'Then I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before you.
Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
With Your counsel You will guide me,
And afterward receive me to glory' (Psalm 73: 22-24)
If the Olympics celebrates excellence, I believe that the Paralympics is even more admirable because it reflects how we can still strive for the best in spite of our weakness, simply because we do not journey alone. Don't we all need somebody to depend upon as we run the race of life? May we all be willing to walk hand in hand with God and run the race beautifully...
